Our main event of the year, The Easter Championships and Festival Competitions was held over the last weekend in April. Although competitor and supporter numbers were down we ran a full programme of events both days and have received many compliments on the enjoyable event we staged. Despite small numbers in some of the events the marking from the selection of adjudicators making up the panels reflected the very competitive nature of those taking part in two days of good competition. We were grateful to all those competitors who supported us and a special thanks to those from Christchurch who rallied around from what have been very difficult circumstances for many down in that city.
Thanks to all our adjudicators for being the 'guinea pigs' as it were in using the new electronic scoring system based on the DanceScore scrutineer programme. Despite some initial reservations, all very quickly put their pencils away and mastered the touch tablets to record and remotely send their event scores to the scrutineers. Well done everyone and also to the scrutineers for the excellent work they put into the process.
The highlight of course was the show dance each night. This year we went for a standard ballroom couple and this was stunningly provided by the current Australian professional champions Matthew Rooke and Anna Longmore. At No.10 on the World stage this couple gave their all for Nelson. They were pleased to be asked to perform in NZ and we were most appreciative that they gave their time to come. The tribute they gave to the people of Christchurch during their last set sealed the popularity of this young couple. A heartfelt thank you from us all to Matt and Anna.
With the Easter results now posted on this site, we are now looking forward to starting the planning process for Easter 2012, mindful that in three more years we will have the momentous task of staging the 50th anniversary of our Easter event.
